Legionnaires’ disease accounts for more than 66% of all reported waterborne disease outbreaks in the US. Legionella bacterium, the causal agent of Legionnaires’ disease, is a clinically significant environmental pathogen. Recent developments have resulted in a new, higher standard of care for building owners and managers.

Inspection, Evaluation and Documentation

VERTEX manages all on-site inspection, evaluation, documentation and preparation of process flow diagrams for building water systems, including cooling towers, and domestic (potable) water systems.

Analysis of Hazardous Conditions

VERTEX performs systematic analyses of building water systems for conditions that support intrusion, amplification and transmission of Legionella.

HACCP-based Water Management Programs

VERTEX develops auditable Water Management Programs, based on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), in compliance with with ASHRAE Standard 188-2015, NSF Standard 453-2016, and applicable codes, rules and regulations.

Water Management Oversight

VERTEX provides ongoing, independent, expert oversight of Water Management Programs, including comprehensive data management and analytics.

Audit Preparedness

VERTEX reviews and updates verification and validation records confirming regulation-compliant implementation of water management program, including preparation for independent audits.

As Senior Vice President of the Industrial Hygiene & Building Sciences sector of VERTEX, Mr. Borgesen oversees all projects pertaining to asbestos, indoor air quality, industrial hygiene, lead-based paint, mold/water intrusion, and cooling tower and domestic (potable) water management programs and plans. Specific expertise includes: asbestos, industrial hygiene, indoor air quality, construction defect investigations, water intrusion/mold investigations, bio-aerosol sampling, HVAC assessment, emergency response actions, risk assessment, epidemiology, remedial work plan preparation and remedial oversight. Mr. Borgesen has extensive experience in the environmental industry including: coordination and performance of Environmental Audits, Hazardous Materials Building Inspections, Industrial Hygiene Investigations, and Indoor Air Quality Studies.
