The New ASTM E1527-13 Standard

January 17, 2014

What It Means for Environmental Site Assessments and VERTEX

Periodically, the ASTM creates an updated standard for Phase I ESAs. The most recent of these updates was in November, 2013, and was formally approved by EPA on December 30, 2013.

The Vertex Companies, Inc. (VERTEX) strives to be at the forefront of these matters and we frequently lead the curve in the items considered in our ESAs. As in the ASTM version issued in 2005, the most recent changes made by ASTM mostly involve formal recognition of items that VERTEX already includes in our assessments.

Going forward, VERTEX will be referencing both ASTM-13 and AAI on all Phase I ESAs (unless specifically instructed otherwise by the client). Also, VERTEX has developed a document providing a short summary of the changes with the new ASTM standard.
