The additions and renovations to the Westwood High School Project consisted of the construction of a new academic facility and renovation of some existing facilities. The new 185,000 square foot academic facility, built adjacent to the existing athletic facilities, consisted of classrooms, administration suites, a 650-seat auditorium, cafeteria, a TV studio, art and music classrooms, and library. The renovated areas comprise the athletic facility, including a gymnasium, pool, and locker rooms. Also in the renovated area is the Pre-K classrooms housed in the high school. Furthermore, the site package consisted of new parking lots and access roads, new baseball fields, a wetlands reclamation area, tennis courts, and an artificial turf multipurpose field/stadium, press box, and concession building. Also in the contract was the demolition of the existing 50-year old academic building, which included the protection of those connected areas under renovation. Work consisted of all major sub trades, including site work, asbestos abatement, foundation, steel, masonry, roofing, drywall, major architectural finishes, elevator, fire protection, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and technology.
When VERTEX started the job, the academic wing was substantially complete and occupied, however with a $1 million punch list outstanding. Minimal work had been completed by the previous contractor on the renovation areas, and significant demolition, site work, and landscaping work were outstanding.
