Forensic Structural Engineer

Eliah Kim is a structural engineer with expertise in design, evaluation, and retrofit of multiple types of buildings, including residential, commercial, medical, and educational buildings. He is a licensed engineer in California and Texas. He is knowledgeable in both the past and current building codes nationwide, encompassing all aspects of structural design such as lateral (seismic and wind) and gravity loads, diaphragm, shear walls, frames, and foundation, involving all common building materials (concrete, wood, steel, light gauge metal, and CMU).

Mr. Kim studied and earned his M.S. degree in the University of California at Berkeley’s prestigious and rigorous structural engineering program, delving deeply into key structural subjects including structural analysis, earthquake engineering, seismic design, and steel/concrete/wood design.

Mr. Kim worked as a design engineer in California for over 5 years. During his tenure in California, he was involved in major projects such as designing a new high school building using special concentric braced frame (SCBF), new medical research center building for Stanford University using concrete shear walls and mat slabs, and medical equipment anchorages at new hospitals (Ridgecrest and El Camino Hospitals). Additionally, he performed seismic evaluation and retrofit for both commercial and residential buildings in San Francisco & San Jose Bay Area.

While at VERTEX, Mr. Kim inspected residential and commercial buildings for property claims due to hail, water intrusion, and tornado and successfully produced reports for them.
