James Alan Barnes began his career as an Aviation Ordnanceman / Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Technician in the United States Navy. As an EOD Technician, Mr. Barnes received specialized training to deal with the construction, chemical makeup, deployment, disarmament, and disposal of various types of ordinances such as high explosive munitions, nuclear and biological weapons, and improvised explosive devices. After a career in the Navy, Mr. Barnes earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas State University in Resource and Environmental Science, and he has continued his education in several employment-related fields of study. He is a licensed multi-line adjuster and holds a Master Captain License from the United States Coast Guard. His 23 years of work experience demonstrates his proficiency in many fields, including environmental claims, fire cause and origin, mold damage and remediation, vehicle & marine accident reconstruction, construction risk & defect claims, property damage causation (including windstorm code), cost estimating, and business development and marketing. He has been involved in thousands of mediations associated with environmental and property claims, and he has participated in complex construction and catastrophe litigation settlements all over the United States. At VERTEX, Mr. Barnes is supporting construction and claims projects in all aspects from management and oversight to client communications and scheduling.
