VERTEX worked as the civil and structural consultants on the project, consisting of a complete review of the existing conditions, revitalization and associated program requirements for the Education Building on the Colorado State University campus. Major considerations when contemplating construction projects within the CSU campus included coordination of the multitude of existing utilities and the floodplain within the campus. Specific to this project and the others that VERTEX has completed on the CSU campus, coordination with the Utilities Services and Facilities staff as well as an understanding of these issues are imperative to the success of the project. This, in addition to our civil engineering design experience, allowed us to bring added value to the project and complete a comprehensive program evaluation. Additionally, VERTEX completed a structural evaluation of the program as well. VERTEX analyzed the existing foundation systems at the Education building to determine their capacity to support an additional 1 or 2 stories added on top of the existing building. Design of new systems was not required at the time of the program review but recommendations of potential requirements helped aid in the understanding of budget allocation necessary for added structure.
