Joseph EganPE, CFE

Executive Vice President, Forensics

Joseph J. Egan is a Executive Vice President in Chicago, Illinois. Joe is an expert in economic damages and construction cost and schedule disputes. He has a background in both engineering and finance/accounting. He has provided expert testimony over 60 times on various matters involving economic damages and construction issues. He previously worked for a large international accounting firm and several large consulting firms. Joe has served as the Project Auditor or Project Accountant on large construction projects where he independently monitored and verified the cost and schedule of construction projects. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Illinois and a Certified Fraud Examiner.

His expertise in commercial litigation as an economic damages expert includes breach of contracts, business interruption, insurance and environmental disputes, class actions, intellectual property, forensic accounting investigation, and fraud investigations. Joe has guest lectured on forensic accounting at the University of Illinois.

His experience in construction matters includes working for owners, contractors, subcontractors, engineers, and architects. The construction projects have included oil refineries, manufacturing facilities, high-rise buildings, hotels, power plants, wind and solar farms, wastewater treatment plants, environmental cleanups, pipeline construction, luxury homes, parking garages, and other projects. His experience and expertise include cost and schedule aspects and lost productivity and disruption of construction. Joe has guest lectured on construction management at the University of Illinois, Purdue University, and Northwestern University’s Master of Project Management Program.

Joe is a co-founder of Breakwater Forensics, LLC. Breakwater was acquired by VERTEX in 2023.
