Denver Metro Village

Denver Metro Village is an affordable senior housing community operating out of an 18-story high rise that was constructed in 1971. In 2018 the community began an upgrade which included a renovation of the existing tower along with a new building consisting of leasable retail at the ground level, a 4-story parking garage, 3 stories of new apartments, community amenities, a workshop, and a rooftop patio. A pedestrian bridge, located at the top level of the parking garage, ties the existing tower to the new structure to reduce the travel distance for residents to access the garage and other amenities.

The project is located in Denver’s vibrant West Colfax district and was constructed while the tower is still occupied with very little site access for storage. The project will provide 200 parking spaces and add 19 multi-family units to the community, along with 7,900 square feet of retail space.

VERTEX provided structural engineering services. The structural system is primarily cast-in-place concrete with post-tensioned floor slabs. The pedestrian bridge and other components utilized steel framing and masonry. Cast-in-place concrete was chosen in part to facilitate a future vertical expansion.
