The Holy Family High School additions and renovations project includes 34,000 SF of new classrooms, common areas, locker rooms, an auxiliary gym/fitness center, as well as a renovation of the existing school building. The new addition will allow the school to increase enrollment to 800 students and provide better access to STEM classes in robotics, engineering, and math. The new gym and fitness center will enhance a well-established athletic program. VERTEX provided structural engineering services for the steel-framed building, which was situated on a site with highly expansive soils in Broomfield, Colorado. The use of deep foundations and a structural floor over a crawl space at the ground level will help mitigate the effect of soil expansion, providing a sturdy, functional building that will serve the needs of students and faculty for decades to come.
In addition to the design work performed, VERTEX provided structural engineering services to the contractor for the temporary bracing of an existing wall during construction.
