VERTEX was asked by an insurance client to review provided documentation and determine the nature of a flooring collapse at a large hospital in Fishersville, VA. VERTEX’s understanding of construction and construction plans allowed us to opine and prove within a reasonable degree of engineering certainty that the insured (contractor) installed the steel beams as specified.
VERTEX determined that the cause of the collapse was due to over-spanning of steel members as specified in the construction plans. As a result, during the concrete pours, the span count did not hold the weight and collapsed.
VERTEX’s detailed investigation concluded that our client’s insured was not responsible for the collapse and therefore, not responsible for the injuries that occurred as a result of the incident.
