Serkan SengulPE, BC.GE, M.ASCE
Senior Managing Director, Technical Claims & Disputes
At Vertex, Mr. Sengul leads and expands the firm’s geotechnical and civil forensics practice throughout the United States and internationally. He specializes in forensic geotechnical engineering, investigating the causes of structural and infrastructure distress, foundation performance issues, soil movement, slope instability, earthwork deficiencies, and construction-related failures. His work focuses on identifying the root causes of geotechnical and civil engineering failures through comprehensive forensic investigations, engineering analyses, and evaluation of design and construction practices. Mr. Sengul provides expert witness services in complex construction disputes, including litigation, arbitration, and other dispute resolution proceedings. He also directs multidisciplinary investigative teams and provides technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to engineering professionals.
Mr. Sengul earned his Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado Denver, specializing in soil suction applications and soil heave prediction along Colorado’s Front Range. He holds the Board-Certified Geotechnical Engineer (BC.GE) credential awarded by the Academy of Geo-Professionals (AGP) in 2018, a distinction held by fewer than 400 professionals at the time of his certification.
Mr. Sengul has maintained an active leadership role in the engineering profession. He served as President of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Colorado Section from 2015 to 2016 and as Governor of ASCE Region 7 from 2017 to 2020, representing engineering professionals across seven Midwestern and Mountain states. He remains actively involved with ASCE and the Colorado Association of Geotechnical Engineers (CAGE).
