The 10th annual Midwest Surety & Construction Claims Conference, themed “A Plethora of Pitfalls: Avoiding Surety Bond Claim Obstacles,” is scheduled to be held from July 11 to 13, 2023, at the University Club in Chicago. The conference, which promises to be informative and engaging, will feature renowned industry experts who will share insights on surety and construction law. We will apply for 10.0 hours of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) and Continuing Education (CE) credits. Meet the conference chairs
The conference will feature industry experts who will share their wealth of knowledge on surety and construction law. The chairs are are renowned for their extensive experience in construction law, litigation, and surety claims management.
Jonathan Hahn: has been with VERTEX since its founding days and has worked on a great variety of projects ranging from heavy highway bridge/infrastructure to multifamily, mixed-use commercial/vertical construction including public and private schools, department of defense, and green energy projects. Mr. Hahn has served many roles in the field including construction manager, on-site monitoring, owner’s representative, and project manager for completion projects.
Kaitlyn Linsner: joined Watt, Tieder, Hoffar & Fitzgerald in 2022 as an associate in the Chicago office. She focuses her practice in the areas of construction and surety law, providing litigation and transactional services to a wide variety of construction industry clients.
Daniel Pentecost: is a licensed Ohio Attorney serving as Master Surety Claims Counsel with the Westfield Group in Westfield Center, Ohio. At this role for thirteen years, Daniel manages complex surety claims and contract performance defaults in multiple jurisdictions. He is also a frequent writer and lecturer on surety and construction law topics. Prior to joining the Westfield Group, Daniel was with Nationwide Insurance in the Office of General Counsel where he specialized in insurance policy drafting and analysis. Daniel earned his undergraduate degree from Ohio University and his J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 2006. He has been licensed to practice law in Ohio since 2007.
Gretchen Eck: is a Regional Vice President of Surety Claims at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. She has been with Liberty since 2012 and is responsible for managing the Europe, Middle East, and Africa Region and the Canadian Region. Prior to joining Liberty, Gretchen was an associate in the Fidelity and Surety Practice Group of the Chicago based law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, where she represented surety clients in litigation matters.
Schedule of Events:
The conference will kick off with a welcome reception at Rivers Restaurant and Bar on Tuesday, July 11th, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The following day, Wednesday, July 12th, attendees will have breakfast at 8:15 am before the program starts at 8:45 am and runs till 4:45 pm. The day will be rounded up with a post-conference reception at Cindy’s Rooftop from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
On Thursday, July 13th, attendees will have breakfast at 8:15 am before the program starts at 8:45 am and runs till 11:30 am. The day will conclude with a post-conference lunch and a boat tour from 11:45 am to 3:15 pm. Attendees will enjoy lunch at Beat Kitchen and then proceed on a 90-minute architectural boat tour by Wendella Boat Tours.
