Geothermal energy, harnessing the heat generated within the Earth’s core, has emerged as a promising solution to address the growing demand for renewable energy sources. By incorporating geothermal systems into building design and construction, professionals in the AEC sector are playing a pivotal role in shaping a sustainable future.
VERTEX served as the Owner’s Project Manager for the new Boston University Center for Computing & Data Sciences Project for the past three years. Now complete, the Boston University Center for Computing & Data Sciences is truly a unique project for its Net Zero technologies including 31 geothermal wells and USGBC LEED Platinum rating, just to name a few.
This 19-story, nearly 350,000 square foot building, is the tallest building on campus at 297 feet high. Designed by the Toronto architectural firm KPMB Architects, the building’s iconic form resembling a stack of books will feature a series of terraced platforms, intended for small-group interactions and green technologies to advance BU’s Climate Action Plan and to account for the risks posed by increases in sea level and climate change.
