About this Project
LKB, a wholly owned subsidiary of VERTEX, was retained by Westchester County Department of Public Works to complete the study, preliminary design, final design and construction support services for this new exit ramp on the Bronx River Parkway. This project required the design of a ramp in a narrow corridor located over the Bronx River between the Bronx River Parkway and a Metro North rail line. The ramp elements include a four-span, steel bridge that connects to an existing bridge above the river and two steel sheet piling retaining walls. The bulkhead wall design included the use of helical anchor tie backs.
Other work included vehicle projections, traffic analysis and traffic signal design plans, survey and mapping, preparation of Design Approval Documents (DR/EA) for federal funding, environmental permitting, a hydraulic analysis, the preparation ofa soils report, construction support services, and public hearings and meetings.
Upon acceptance of the contract documents, LKB provided services during the bidding phase, which included responding to inquiries from prospective bidders; review of contractors’ qualifications and references; preparation of a bid summary; and recommendation of the award to the lowest responsible and qualified bidder. LKB’s construction support services during the construction phase included review and approval of detailed shop drawings, catalog cuts, and miscellaneous submittals for compliance with contract documents; review and responses to RFI’s (Request for Information) and Change Order Requests; and attendance of progress and project meetings, as necessary.
