Structural Designer, Engineering

As a Structural Designer with Vertex Engineering and Design, Mr. Montoya’s primary responsibilities include: performing structural analyses and calculations for the design of new residential, commercial, and luxury resort structures; preparing construction documents; and assisting with construction administration activities.

Mr. Montoya also provides general litigation assistance for construction claims involving claims brought against structural design professionals. His skillset includes cost estimating, fault allocation, liability, and standard of care analysis for design professionals and general contractors. Prior to joining the design team at Vertex, Mr. Montoya was a staff member with Vertex Litigation Support where his responsibilities included: analysis of construction methods and defects at commercial, residential, and mixed-use properties; analysis of damages and cost to repair; identification of parties responsible for damages; allocation of damages; development of cost of repair estimates; contract analysis; schedule analysis; procurement of exhibits for mediation, deposition, arbitration, and trial; preparation with an expert testifying witnesses for deposition, arbitration and trial; and general litigation assistance.

Mr. Montoya’s design and litigation experience include assistance in the preparation of construction documents for over 11 residential, commercial, and luxury resort projects and over sixty construction defect, insurance, and contract claims respectively. Mr. Montoya has assisted Vertex’s forensic engineering team with intrusive testing, insurance claims involving fire damage, and designing repairs for construction claims. Mr. Montoya’s cost estimating experience includes repairs to structural steel, framing, and concrete; structural underpinning; stucco, stone, brick, siding, trim, roofing, window, and flashing; civil grading and drainage; mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems; fire-rated construction and fire suppression systems; site concrete, asphalt and excavation; and commercial and residential interior finishes.
