VERTEX’s subsidiary, Compass Project Management, Inc. (Compass), served as the Owner’s Project Manager on the University of Massachusetts Lowell Coburn Hall addition/renovation project. Coburn Hall is a 127-year-old structure that was one of the first buildings on the UMass Lowell Campus. It is a 60,000 SF, 4-story, masonry, and timber-framed building with several historic details that were to be preserved. The project included a complete renovation of the existing building including some significant re-structuring and seismic reinforcement. The project also included a 14,000 SF addition consisting of a steel frame structure clad in curtainwall, metal panels, and fiber cement panels. The new layout houses classrooms, offices, an event space, and miscellaneous collaboration spaces.
