We are pleased to announce that Kirk O’Brien, AIA an award-winning architect and past president of the AIA San Diego Chapter, has joined Xpera Group (now part of VERTEX) to lead our new architectural division.
In private practice for 24 years as principal of Aedifice Ideas>Architecture in San Diego, Kirk has designed almost every building type over the years, with a primary focus on multi-family residential work. He has drafted and overseen production of construction documents for hundreds of projects. His work has earned him recognition from the AIA, San Diego Housing Federation and National Association of Home Builders.
Kirk has substantial experience as an architectural forensic witness, and he routinely consults as a peer/plan review specialist, assisting in waterproofing quality assurance and providing construction phase inspections and window testing. His experience within the construction defect industry has enhanced his ability help clients avoid pitfalls that could lead to potential future defects and litigation.
Kirk has a long history in local politics and public service, having served on numerous advisory boards and committees within the City of San Diego. He also gained a great deal of disaster response experience during the 2003 and 2007 San Diego County wildfires, leading to his selection to participate in the re-writing the statewide disaster response manual and then a three-year appointment the AIA National Disaster Assistance Committee.
