VERTEX was contacted by an insurance carrier after their insured reported a significant water intrusion event and ensuing mold growth for an apartment building under construction and had an incomplete building envelope (e.g. roof and windows had yet to be installed) at the time of the loss. VERTEX reviewed $615,000 in costs allegedly associated with the remediation and restoration of the pollution condition. VERTEX identified approximately $345,000 in costs that were not direct remediation costs and/or related to drying the affected structure. In addition, VERTEX conducted a detailed review of the contract bid documents to aid in the subrogation analysis for cost recovery against the contractor responsible for providing weather protection at the time of the loss. VERTEX’s thorough review of the facts and summary explanations resulted in a cost savings of approximately $345,000 for our insurance client.
