About this Project
LKB was retained by Suffolk County Department of Public Works to provide preliminary and final design services for this federally-funded project, under Local Design Services Agreement (LDSA) requirements. The project consisted of the reconstruction and widening of 2.7 miles of CR 16, a primary roadway through the communities of Lake Ronkonkoma and Farmingville.
Services performed included topographic mapping, environmental studies, traffic analyses, acquisition of private property to accommodate the road widening, the preparation of a design report/environmental assessment document, several public information meetings, and two EDPL public hearings. Design work included establishing new horizontal and vertical roadway alignments, a new positive drainage system, including two new stormwater recharge basins, intersection alignment improvements, 16 traffic signal installations, a new pavement section, the provision of continuous curbs and sidewalks on both sides of the roadway, providing sanctioned bicycle lanes along the roadway shoulders, utility conflict mitigation, design of decorative street lighting, MPT, cost estimating, and preparing specifications.
