For this energy savings investigation VERTEX assessed a two-building portfolio in Austin Texas. Both buildings were low rise offices occupied by multiple tenants. The American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers’ (ASHRAE) “Procedures for Commercial Building Energy Audits” was utilized as a guideline for the site visits and associated report preparations. This Level II compliant assessment included calculations relating to lighting savings, envelope improvements, and other more advanced energy saving strategies. Given the site location, additional care was taken while reviewing energy consumption related to cooling. One of the buildings had a number of savings opportunities surrounding the chiller equipment, while it was determined the other would realize greater benefit from developing a replacement plan for their numerous split system air conditioners.
