VERTEX was contacted by an insurance carrier to investigate alleged flood damage to a marine facility. The marine facility was a yacht club located on a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir that consisted of a clubhouse, floating docks, cross over docks, rock breakwater, floating breakwater (wave attenuator), navigation tower, weather station, boat ramps, parking lots, and access roads.
VERTEX’s investigation included visual observations and photographic documentation of 6 floating docks with approximately 150 boat slips, a floating breakwater, a navigation tower, and a weather station. As a part of our investigation, VERTEX conducted additional interviews and reviewed applicable flood and meteorological data.
Based on our investigation, VERTEX concluded that the damages were from the flood event and that an evaluation of the breakwater systems should be completed to verify the marina and its structures would be protected from a similar future event.
