VERTEX was retained to manage the removal of Underground Storage Tanks (USTs) at two Bank Branches. VERTEX conducted the following work on this project:
- Evaluation of Leak Detection Alarm – VERTEX responded to an UST alarm at one of the locations. We worked with a tank contractor to inspect the alarm panel, identify the type of alarm, and open the tank access and check the leak detection wiring. After inspection, we re-set the alarm and initiated efforts to remove the UST.
- UST Removal Planning – VERTEX worked with the Bank and a tank removal contractor to plan and schedule the UST removal. A key aspect of the planning was to complete the installation of an alternative fuel source for the building boilers on each site.
- UST Removal Inspection/Soil Sampling – VERTEX provided full-time inspection of the tank removal work including the isolation and removal of all the associated piping. VERTEX documented the soil conditions adjacent to the tank and collected soil samples in accordance with the soil sampling requirements established by the NHDES.
- UST Removal Closeout Documentation – VERTEX worked with the tank removal contractor to prepare and submit the required documentation which demonstrated that the USTs had not leaked and that the closure was conducted in accordance with associated regulatory requirements following industry standards.
The work on this project included close correspondence with the Bank personnel and the NHDES. The removal of the USTs enabled the bank branches to install higher efficiency heating systems and lower emissions of greenhouse gases by switching from heating fuel to natural gas/propane.
