VERTEX was retained by a national self-storage client to evaluate soil and groundwater conditions at the site and obtain a Response Action Outcome (RAO) at a property with contaminated historic fill material. The property was historically utilized by publishing, printing, and film companies.
VERTEX conducted a soil investigation, which confirmed the presence of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), and various heavy metals exceeding one or more of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Remediation Standards. The contaminants of concern (COCs) were attributed to historic fill material. Based on the confirmed impacts, VERTEX was retained to provide Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP) oversight, implement site remediation activities, and submit appropriate documents to the NJDEP throughout the course of the project. Additional subsurface investigations were executed in areas of concern (AOCs) to fully delineate and confirm onsite impacts.
VERTEX oversaw and managed the installation of engineering controls consisting of asphalt, synthetic grass, and landscaped areas to remediate the historic fill material COCs. Approximately 103.62 tons of soil were excavated at the site to successfully install the various engineering controls. A Soil Management Plan (SMP) was prepared to supplement the Deed Notice and a Soil Remediation Action Permit (SRAP), Classification Exception Area (CEA), and Receptor Evaluation (RE) were completed for the site. Ultimately, a Restricted Use RAO was issued for the contaminants of concern by VERTEX’s LSRP.
This project provided VERTEX with the opportunity to utilize its State-Licensed Professionals to ensure onsite activities were executed correctly and in accordance with NJDEP’s most stringent guidelines, work closely with government entities to successfully submit appropriate reports and documentation, design and implement engineered solutions, and provide the most diligent of oversight of the comprehensive remedial actions executed at the site.
