Two-Lane Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel

VERTEX was retained as the damages expert for the surety of a slurry wall and jet grouting subcontractor for the construction of the Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel in Chesapeake Bay, Virginia. The new, two-lane tunnel runs under the Thimble Shoal Channel, parallel to an existing tunnel, and is approximately one mile long. Two man-made islands serve as entry and exit points for the tunnel. VERTEX’s assignment included an evaluation of the general contractor’s alleged supplementation, completion, and delay costs.
