The Center for Character and Leadership Development Project is a 46,000 SF building located at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The building contains a large forum that is centrally located beneath the skylight and contains offices, seminar rooms, a library, and an honor board room. Most notably, the building features a 105-foot-tall skylight skewed to the North to align directly with the North Star. With a glass oculus at the top of the glass enclosure looking directly at the North Star, the skylight is intended to represent a “moral compass” for the cadets during their training. The building achieved a LEED Gold certification through the use of environmentally friendly building materials, photovoltaic panels, energy-efficient radiant heating and cooling, and the extensive use of natural lighting. VERTEX assisted in providing consultation services on various matters critical to the completion of the project.
