Bloomberg recently published the article “Staid Boston Gets an Architectural Wake-Up Call” in its CityLab Design, by author Anthony Flint featuring the Boston University Center for Computing & Data Sciences Project which VERTEX is serving as the Owner’s Project Manager. The Boston University Center for Computing & Data Sciences, a 19-story, nearly 350,000 square foot building, will be the tallest building on campus at 297 feet high.

This spectacular new visual to Boston’s city skyline will house the Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science Departments along with the Rafik B. Hariri Institute for Computing and Computational Science & Engineering. The building was designed by the Toronto architectural firm KPMB Architects, the building’s iconic form resembling a stack of books will feature a series of terraced platforms, intended for small-group interactions and green technologies to advance BU’s Climate Action Plan and to account for the risks posed by increases in sea level and climate change. The building is the first major teaching center built on the Charles River Campus in over 50 years.

“We think of it as a vertical campus and a stack of neighborhoods,” he said, where different departments and faculties can gather and collaborate in distinct zones, each with its own outdoor space in the form of a terrace — a key post-pandemic amenity. “We set up guiding principles that we followed that are quite rational, but to an observer can look very spontaneous.”
