VERTEX to Attend SCUP’s Building on Distinction Symposium

October 31, 2024

VERTEX will attend The Society for College and University Planning’s (SCUP) Brown University: Building on Distinction Symposium, hosted by Brown University on November 7th, in the Sayles Hall Auditorium. This event brings together professionals from higher education, urban planning, and development to explore Brown’s innovative campus planning and community expansion initiatives.

The symposium focuses on Brown’s “Building on Distinction” strategic plan, which has advanced research, academic programming, and residential facilities on College Hill. In the morning sessions, Frances Halsband of Perkins Eastman will discuss Brown’s campus planning history and the challenges of expanding within its historic campus. Known for its architectural unity and community integration, College Hill serves as an example of balancing growth with preservation.

The afternoon will spotlight Brown’s expansion into the Jewelry District, a former industrial area now envisioned as a mixed-use neighborhood in collaboration with the City of Providence. Attendees will learn about Brown’s strategies for creating an innovation district that aligns with city and community goals, fostering an environment that benefits both university objectives and local development.

VERTEX’s Director of Operational Growth Aurora Cammarata, Executive Vice President Bryan Jarvis, and Assistant Vice President Christy Murphy, LEED AP, will represent the company. The symposium offers VERTEX an opportunity to connect with leaders and exchange insights on sustainable campus and community planning, supporting the company’s mission to drive impactful, community-centered growth in educational and public sectors.

More information about the Brown University: Building on Distinction Symposium can be found on the SCUP website, here.
