Xpera Offers New CE Course on Building Envelope Risks

February 7, 2017

Building envelope consulting has long been one of our most sought-after specialty services at Xpera (which is now part of VERTEX). Now, we are pleased to be able to share some of our most valuable lessons learned from decades in the field with our industry peers in the form of a certified continued education course.

We first delivered this CE course last summer to our friends at Carrier Johnson + Culture, an architectural firm for whom we have provided building envelope consulting services for many years. We will soon be making additional presentations to both the San Diego and Palomar chapters of the AIA at VERTEX’s San Diego Office in Rancho Bernardo.

Entitled “Understanding Building Envelope Risks,” the one-hour course helps participants gain a better understanding of the role building envelopes play in the overall design, construction and operation of modern structures, particularly as requirements to meet high-performance energy, sustainability, seismic and other standards steadily ratchet up.

The course is recognized by the AIA for continuing education to licensed architects and qualifies for the coveted Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW) category of required learning units.

By the end of course, participants will be able to answer the following questions:

  • What are the requirements for a modern building envelope?
  • Who bears responsibility for its design, installation and performance?
  • What are the risks associated with modern building envelope systems and components?
  • What is the role of the building envelope consultant?
  • How can functional/performance testing of key components and assemblies during construction reduce risk and ensure project success?

Update: The presentation to AIA San Diego and Palomar Chapters was held Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 11:30-1:00pm at the San Diego office. You can read more about it here.

This article was originally published by Xpera Group which is now part of The Vertex Companies, LLC.
