On Saturday December 5, 2020, the Construction Team for the new Boston University Center for Computing & Data Sciences achieved a significant milestone. A massive amount of concrete was placed in a 5’ thick mat for the tower base, a key component in the transition to vertical construction activities.
Some interesting facts regarding the placement include:
• 4,500 cubic yards concrete
• Delivered to site by 450 concrete trucks
• Placed over 900 tons of steel reinforcing
• Over 20 hours of continuous placement involving 3 pump trucks and 600 hours of workforce labor
• Utilizing resources from the region’s 2 major concrete suppliers
• Among the largest continuous concrete placements in City of Boston
• Embodied carbon concrete mix reduced over 700 tons of CO2 equivalent from being emitted to the atmosphere
