VERTEX’s Alex Johnsen, CIH and Thomas Koch, CIH, MSEPM will lead this 3-day training designed for professionals performing assessment, sampling, or decontamination of methamphetamine-affected properties in Colorado. This course meets certification requirements under 6 CCR 1014-3.

Course Overview

Participants will gain essential knowledge related to meth-affected properties, including:

  • Relevant statutes and regulations
  • Site assessment and sampling protocols
  • Updated industrial hygiene practices
  • Decontamination procedures
  • Reporting and documentation requirements

Upon completion, attendees will receive a certificate required by the State of Colorado to conduct work on methamphetamine-affected properties.


Meet the Instructors

Alex Johnsen, CIH
With over eight years in the AEC industry, Alex has led a variety of Industrial Hygiene and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) projects for diverse clients. A Certified Industrial Hygienist, Alex holds a B.S. from the University of Colorado and is pursuing an M.S. from the University of Denver. He is also a certified methamphetamine instructor through the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE).

Thomas Koch, CIH, MSEPM
Thomas brings more than 30 years of experience in Industrial Hygiene and EHS, with a strong background in both the public and private sectors. He is a Certified Industrial Hygienist with a Master’s in Environmental Policy and Management. Before joining VERTEX, Thomas led Koch Environmental Health, Inc., and currently teaches master’s-level courses at the University of Denver. His areas of expertise include OSHA/EPA compliance, HASP development, asbestos, hazardous waste, HAZWOPER programs, and expert witness testimony in cases involving mold, asbestos, and meth-affected properties.
