VERTEX performed Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) of two almond farm properties located in Kern County, California with a total acreage of approximately 590 acres. Prior use of the properties included vacant land, agricultural field and row crops from the 1950s, and later developed as Almond farms in the 1990s and 2000s. Research, database searches, interviews with site personnel, and municipal agents, coupled with a detailed site walkover were utilized to evaluate the risk associated with current and past property usage, which included abandoned and operating oil wells on one site. VERTEX also assessed each site for the potential presence of asbestos-containing materials (ACM), lead-based paint (LBP), and radon.
