VERTEX served as Owner’s Project Manager for the new Center for Integrated Life Sciences and Engineering (CILSE) Building located on Commonwealth Avenue next to the Morse Auditorium. The building consists of research labs and office space for the Neurology, Human Imaging, and Synthetic Biology Programs. This signature building for Boston University, both architecturally and academically, has nine-stories of lab space designed with flexible floor space to accommodate rapidly emerging changes in research methodologies. The facility includes vivarium capacity on each floor as well as colloquial presentation space on the first floor. As with most urban projects, the major challenge for the team was construction logistics given the tight lot lines and siting along a major Boston thoroughfare.
VERETX provided services from concept planning through construction and closeout. The services during design included team management and communication, construction management team selection, constructability and procurement consulting, schedule and budget control, and construction logistics and mitigation. During the construction phase, VERTEX provided onsite management of the construction and design teams. This project was successfully completed in the summer of 2017.
After the successful completion of the brand new Boston University Kilachand Center for Integrated Life Sciences and Engineering building in the summer of 2017, VERTEX resumed its role as OPM to complete the fit out for the state-of-the-art laboratories on two floors of the building that had remained as shell space. This project was completed on schedule and without interruption to the research work being done by the scientists and engineers at the Kilachand Center.
