Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) is the largest electric utility company in North America. Held by the Mexican government, CFE spans over 210 electricity generation plants with a total capacity of 52,512 MW.
The utility selected VERTEX to help it meet a variety of complex environmental and regulatory objectives. These included the system-wide management of PCBs and sulfur hexafluoride (SF6 ) and improving processes for contaminated site assessments, remediation and waste generation management.
VERTEX implemented an environmental management plan that provided training for handling, sampling, testing and replacing outdated SF6 equipment. VERTEX also developed protocols to prevent the release of oil and hazardous materials into the environment, while assessing release liabilities and options for recovering and reusing contaminated land. To support CFE site remediation and recovery initiatives, VERTEX thoroughly explored opportunities for recycling, reusing and recovering hazardous and non-hazardous power plant waste.
