VERTEX served as the general contractor for the construction of the 33,000 square foot Stillwell Portal Building/Police Facility No. 34 in Coney Island, New York. The building provided a passageway to the new $200 million Stillwell Avenue Terminal, retail space, and a facility for NYCT Police and NYCT maintenance personnel. The exterior façade consisted of multiple architectural finishes, including terra cotta, ornamental metal, precast, granite, glass brick, and steel windows. The foundation system is a blend of driven and bored piles. The building frame is structural steel. VERTEX’s responsibilities included a review of contract documents, review, and analysis of subcontractor bids, on-site supervision, and coordination of trades, preparation of coordination drawings, development of baseline and monthly schedules, holding project coordination meetings, review of shop drawings and submittals, preparation of Owner payment applications, review of subcontractor payment applications, submittal of RFI’s and change order requests, review of subcontractor change orders, preparation of as-built drawings and operation and maintenance manuals, and project documentation.
