VERTEX was retained as the scheduling and delay expert for a general contractor in a dispute with the Colorado Department of Transportation regarding the construction of a six-mile extension of the express lane system along Interstate 25 in Colorado. The project scope included lane expansion and widening, construction of 13 ramps and associated detours, supporting roadway infrastructure, and new pavement.
VERTEX conducted a forensic schedule analysis using a Windows Analysis methodology and evaluated causation to determine excusable and compensable delays. Given the significant amount of change and re-sequencing that occurred on the project, VERETX performed half-step, or progress-only, analyses to bifurcate potential progress delays from those attributable to revision. As work was descoped at the end of the project, VERTEX also replicated the last several schedule updates and adjusted them to appropriately model the scope removal that later occurred and evaluate its effect on the contractor’s performance.
