At the Guaynabo Fuel Terminal in Puerto Rico, VERTEX partnered with SP Systems to deliver a critical radiant heat analysis that supports safer fuel storage and fire protection strategies for one of the island’s key energy assets. Tasked with evaluating the potential impact of a fully involved tank fire, VERTEX employed advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling to simulate radiant heat transfer scenarios and assess their effect on surrounding tanks, isolation valves, process equipment, pipe racks, buildings, and emergency systems. The resulting report provided clear, data-driven insights to inform fire protection system planning and emergency response design, reinforcing SP Systems’ commitment to safety and operational resilience in a high-stakes, high-hazard environment. This study was an essential part of protecting critical infrastructure that helps power Puerto Rico’s future.
