Walpole Bird Middle School

VERTEX served as Owner’s Project Manager for the Walpole Middle School project on behalf of the Town of Walpole. Early in the planning phase, VERTEX supported the Town in evaluating two enrollment options: construction of a single middle school or development of a combined facility incorporating both existing middle schools. Walpole ultimately selected a combined middle school to be constructed on the existing Bird Middle School site. 

Throughout design, VERTEX led extensive budget management efforts to address escalating construction costs in the post-COVID market. To maintain schedule and cost control, the project utilized a Chapter 149A Construction Manager at Risk (CM at Risk) delivery method, enabling early trade packages and fast-tracked procurement. 

The new building was constructed on a constrained site, located just feet from the existing school. VERTEX worked closely with the Construction Manager and Walpole Public Schools to coordinate detailed site logistics plans, resulting in no significant disruptions to ongoing school operations or the varsity athletic fields shared on campus. 

Construction began in September 2022, the school opened in 2024, and the project has since reached full completion.
