VERTEX provided follow-up structural consulting services on a municipal footbridge on the coast of Nantucket Island in Massachusetts. The wood-framed footbridge is a historic landmark in Nantucket with the current bridge being a replica of the original which was built circa 1900. VERTEX originally inspected the bridge 5 years prior and provided repair recommendations for age related degradation. VERTEX’s recent services included re-inspection for any new age related defects, structural analysis of the existing framing, and preparation of design details for localized repairs with a goal of continuing to preserve the bridge’s historic nature while ensuring bridge integrity for many years to come. VERTEX’s expertise in structural evaluation of existing wood framing, code requirements for structural repairs, and effective coordination with the local municipalities were critical to the overall success of the project.
