This webinar will discuss what constitutes a distressed project, the negative outcomes and/or challenges that a distressed project presents, pre-construction risk indicators, and warning signs during project delivery. Presenters will share real-world examples from VERTEX’s broad expertise platform including insights from Project Advisory, Industrial Hygiene/Building Science, and Surety services. Presenters: Matt Click, Max Elliott and Alex Johnsen

Course Description: This session explores the wide-ranging construction defects commonly encountered during VERTEX’s investigations across the country, focusing on deficiencies stemming from design errors, construction activities, and product failures. Presenters will share real-world examples to distinguish defects with a low probability of causing property damage from those that can lead to significant building damage requiring costly remediation or abatement. Attendees will gain practical insights into identifying and analyzing these issues, understanding their legal and financial implications, and exploring mitigation techniques to address damages efficiently. The course will also emphasize proactive measures to avoid design and construction deficiencies early in the project lifecycle, limiting potential impacts. Prior to experiencing impacts, it is crucial to maintain robust documentation practices to capture and address potential impacts effectively. This webinar aims to equip participants with the necessary knowledge to comprehensively document all phases of construction projects. The webinar will discuss best practices for documentation before, during, and after a project encounters distress, encompassing both on-site and off-site activities.
